This is for sure a topic that stirs up a lot of emotions so the goal of this episode is to give you some “food for thought”, to offer you some new perspectives that will hopefully shift your mindset around weight and that four-letter word D I E T!
I’m hoping to help you see an approach on this topic with fresh eyes. You might be interested to know that the word D I E T comes from an ancient Greek word “diaita,” which means “way of life.”
So perhaps “way of life” is a better and more accurate way to think of it because these days, D I E T conjures up thoughts of restricting food intake, eating sparingly, and for many people, deprivation and hunger. Ugg!
In Dr. Christiane Northrup’s book “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom”, she says that
“Our entire culture promotes dietary schizophrenia. Women’s magazines tell us how to “Take 10 lbs off Fast” and in the same issue they talk about “Five Chocolate Recipes Your Family Will Love You For”.
