Estrogen Isn’t The Enemy, Though It’s Not The Hero Either
Every Woman Deserves To Understand Her Changing Hormones
We’re told that estrogen helps us stay youthful ... and it does. It supports our skin elasticity, brain clarity, mood, energy, libido, and even bone strength.
But estrogen may be only part of the picture, and it’s certainly not the whole solution because our hormones don’t work in isolation; they perform together, like instruments in a finely tuned orchestra.
True vitality comes from hormonal harmony, not just one hormone.
(Because my first love has always been classical music, I'm using a musical orchestra as an analogy to discuss our highly inter-related hormonal system. ~ Diane)
🎵 An Orchestra of Hormones
Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone may play leading roles, but behind them are other “youth-supporting” hormones:
- Progesterone, the calming, restorative rhythm
- DHEA, produced by the adrenal glands, helps maintain metabolism, energy, and muscle tone (it’s a natural steroid the body converts into estrogen or testosterone as needed)
- Melatonin, made by the pineal gland, signals the body for deep rest and nighttime repair
-
Growth Hormone, produced by the pituitary gland, is the motivator for cellular renewal, tissue healing, and recovery
At the center of it all, the Pituitary Gland acts as the conductor, directing the thyroid, adrenals, and reproductive glands to play in balance.
The Pineal Gland, like a subtle lighting technician, helps the body adapt to cycles of day and night which influence sleep, repair, and even our moods
The liver and gut are like the sound technicians: they don’t play instruments, but they keep the harmony clear. When they’re overloaded, the “sound” e.g. our energy, comfort, and mood becomes distorted.
Supporting them helps every other system perform at its best.
⚖️ Why More Estrogen Isn’t Always Better
When estrogen rises without balance, often due to sluggish liver clearance, chronic stress, or environmental estrogen exposure, it can cause mood swings, bloating, breast tenderness, and/or weight gain.
This is what’s often called estrogen dominance.
Yet on the other hand, when estrogen becomes too low, because our adrenals are under stress or often as we move through our 40s and 50s, we can experience dryness, fatigue, or hot flashes.
Estrogen isn’t the villain, and it’s not the solo hero either! Though it naturally declines with age, estrogen still needs to work in harmony with:
- Progesterone, which often drops faster and is essential for calm, rest, and emotional stability
- Cortisol, the stress-response hormone that sets our daily rhythm
- Adrenals, which take on more hormonal work as the ovaries slow down, helping maintain resilience
-
Liver & gut detox pathways, which clear “used-up” hormones so they don’t linger and create more havoc
When these systems are in sync, we feel grounded, clear ... vibrant!
🌸 Restoring Hormonal Harmony
The good news? Restoring balance is simpler than it seems because when we support the right systems, the body already knows how to recalibrate.
The better balanced the body becomes, the fewer symptoms we experience.
And when the whole system finds its rhythm again, we often discover a steadier energy, clearer mind, and renewed sense of vitality; proof that the body responds beautifully when given the right support.
To help you choose, or to keep it simple; start with the formula or two that resonate most with you. You don’t need to use them all; even one supportive step helps your body begin to harmonize again.
Your body will guide you as it always does, when we listen.
🌿 Supporting the Glandular Orchestra Naturally
Instead of overriding the body’s rhythm, I prefer to work with it. We can restore the body’s natural dialogue by nurturing the systems that already create harmony.
When we nourish the glands, calm the adrenals, and keep detox pathways open, the body restores balance beautifully - and naturally.
The Reproductive Section - The Melody Makers
My favourite are Women’s Formula and F.E. Formula (use F.E. a bit more when hot flashes are frequent). These blends gently support the female reproductive system at any stage, encouraging natural estrogen–progesterone balance
Adrenals: The Rhythm Keepers
They pick up much of the hormonal workload after menopause and help restore calm energy while easing stress-triggered hot flashes.
My favorites Formulas are Adrenal Support or HS-C (HS-C especially when emotion or heart stress is present) to help the body unwind, rest, and recover.
Thyroid: The Tempo Setter
The thyroid sets the pace for metabolism and mood, often struggling when the adrenals are tired.
The herbal combination Potas provides gentle nourishment for the thyroid, while providing extra support for the adrenals, and pituitary. It also helps regulate body fluids, easing bloating and water retention.
Pituitary: The Conductor
The pituitary is the master communicator, orchestrating the hormonal signals throughout the body
Alfalfa found in Potas nourishes both the pituitary and pineal glands – helping the conducting stay steady and the body adapt smoothly to its environment
Gut & Liver: The Harmonizers
A healthy liver ensures hormones are properly metabolized and cleared, while the gut helps eliminate what the liver has processed.
LIV-A support this detox rhythm while Body Detox helps keep estrogen pathways balanced and efficient; together, they help your hormonal “sound” stay clear and smooth.
💫 Rethinking Hormones & “Loss of Youth”
Hormonal changes do not have to be defined as a loss of youth.
Yes, they can influence how we feel and look, but they’re also a reflection of years of giving, juggling, and caring, a body stretched thin by life’s busyness, responsibilities, and love for others.
Now is the time to replenish, and it’s never too early, or too late!
When we support the foundational systems: the glands, adrenals, liver, and gut, the body often rewards us with a new kind of vitality, one rooted in balance, steadiness, and deep well-being.
Because when harmony is restored, the symptoms can lessen or even fade away. When the whole system and our body is supported, balance returns — and we feel like ourselves again, sometimes even a better version of ourselves
