Hydration Tips for Energy, Balance & Wellness
What Actually Counts as Water for Hydration?

We hear it all the time: "Drink more water!"
But what actually counts as water?
And how much do I really need?
Summer is the perfect time to revisit this simple but powerful habit. Let’s walk through what your body recognizes as hydration, how to calculate your needs, and some personal insights from my own journey that might surprise you.
Why Hydration Always Matters, Especially in Hot & Humid Weather
In hot, humid weather, staying hydrated is more than just a comfort, it’s a necessity for whole-body wellness.
When your hydration is consistent, you may notice:
- More sustained energy
- Better focus and mental clarity
- Reduced cravings
- Stable blood sugar levels
- Natural detoxification
- Hormone support
- Fewer aches and better digestion
And if you’re thinking: “Water just isn’t my thing” I've been there and, I completely understand.
My Hydration Journey (The Honest Version)
I’ll be the first to admit: I really really did not like drinking water!
When I first started my natural health journey almost 4 decades ago, I couldn’t even get through one glass a day. It actually took me 9 months just to reach that first consistent daily glass of water, and that felt like a real victory.
Even when I tried adding a bit of NSP's Chlorophyll in my water, I didn’t love it at first. But here's what changed for me:
If I had to drink water anyway why not choose a version that brings more to the table?
With time (and some tastebud re-training), chlorophyll water became my daily go-to. I now enjoy 1 to 1.5 liters per day—and it’s one of the few habits that has helped me reduce the need for other supplements because of how supportive it is across so many body systems.
Today, it’s a non-negotiable part of my maintenance plan.
What Counts As Water?
Here’s what your body recognizes as hydrating water:
✅ Pure water
✅ Lemon or lime juice in water (¼–½ freshly squeezed into a glass)
✅ NSP's Chlorophyll water (even better if it’s pleasant for you!)
Everything else? Think of it more like food and that includes:
🚫 Coffee
🚫 Tea
🚫 Juices
🚫 Plant milks
🚫 Protein shakes or smoothies
While these may contain nutrients and water, your body processes them quite differently, and some can even tend to dehydrate you.
So How Much Water Do I Need
Use this simple formula:
Body weight in lbs ÷ 2 = number of oz per day
For example, if you weigh 140 lbs, aim for around 70 oz/day—that’s just over 2 liters.
That total can come from:
✔️ Pure water
✔️ Freshly squeezed Lemon or Lime in water
✔️ NSP's Chlorophyll mixed in water
You can mix and match depending on what’s most enjoyable for you.
Why I Love Chlorophyll In My Water (and Recommend It!)
I use NSP's Chlorophyll because it offers a powerful layer of benefits:
- More pleasant to drink than plain water
- Helps with energy, blood sugar, and cravings
- Gently supports detox pathways
- Provides minerals and yes, even natural electrolytes
- Can reduce the need for other supplements over time
Even just 2 glasses/day can make a real difference and once you love the taste, 1–1.5 liters is a beautiful rhythm.
A Sample Hydration Flow for the Day
Here’s how you might build a day of hydration, especially in summer:
- 2 glasses of pure water (start and end of day)
- 0–2 glasses of lemon/lime water (morning or mid-afternoon)
- 2–4+ glasses of chlorophyll water (throughout the day)
No need for perfection, just focus on consistency and intention.
Simple Tips to Stay Consistently Hydrated
Sometimes, the challenge isn’t what to drink, it’s remembering to drink it so here are a few hydration habits that can make a big difference:
- Carry a water bottle everywhere you go
- Keep a glass or jar visible on the kitchen counter or next to your desk
- Use a bottle with motivational time markings like:
- “Start here”
- “Remember your goal”
- “Keep chugging”
- “Don’t give up”
- “Almost there”
- “You did it!”
- Start your day with one full glass of water to get ahead
- Set a timer every hour as a gentle reminder—just a few sips add up
- Link water to other habits (like taking herbs or stretching)
- Use Lemon, Lime, or NSP's Chlorophyll to make water more enjoyable
Start with one or two of these that feel realistic for you—and slowly build from there.
A Gentle Invitation
If you’re not a water fan (I hear you), start where you are.
Add one glass when comfortable slowy increasing over time (its not a race, so build at your own pace). Use fresh lemon, lime or chlorophyll and enjoy in your favourite glass or mug. Set a reminder.
