EP 55: Finding harmony in exercise, health, misconceptions and myths debunked

Welcome to episode #55 where we talk about finding a balance in fitness as a part of achieving harmony in our health and well-being. (Even when fitness in just not your thing!)

Stop! This episode is not only for people who regularly work out at the gym, train for events, or play in a league sport!

It is for anyone thinking maybe it’s time to just start something like walking, or swimming, or playing pickleball, or curling, or …, and perhaps get inspired like I was recently.

While I don’t have an author to credit, consider these words & their power:

"Your body can stand almost anything. It’s your mind that you have to convince."

In September I was part of an expert panel at an event called “The Complete Athlete Clinic”, a community event for the Tiger-Cats, a Canadian Football League (CFL) team in Hamilton, ON.

Quite an event and so much fun, there were so many take-aways that I wanted to share some of the information with you! I really believe it can be beneficial for anyone who exercises and trains on a regular basis, who might be less consistent, or who really does not like to exercise that much.

I enjoyed interacting with every panel member who shared their extensive knowledge including:

  • the Tiger-Cats Sports Psychiatrist
  • the Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • Owner of Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine Clinics
  • the Tiger-Cats Head Athletic Therapist

For my part, I represented the nutritional herbalist aspects of training for injury prevention, injury healing, athletes’ challenges, and misconceptions. I will share some very useful interesting insights with you.

We’ll begin with: How do you define fitness?

Most might agree it is a holistic concept that encompasses not just physical strength and endurance, but also mental well-being and emotional resilience.

  • The Physical Benefits: increased strength, improved endurance, better balance, weight management
  • The Mental Benefits: stress relief, improved mood, enhanced cognitive function
  • The Emotional Benefits: building self-esteem and feeling of accomplishment, fostering a sense of community, simply feeling good

We’ll talk much more about:

  • Two perspectives of the complete athlete
  • Overcoming personal barriers
  • The common misconceptions
  • The biggest challenges
  • How to embrace nutrition and herbs in a busy daily routine

Join me on this continuing wellness journey conversation, and in the meantime, I’ll leave you with this thought which again is by an unknown author:

"Every workout is progress, no matter how small."

The reality for most of us is that there are a lot of complex factors that influence us daily, this episode will discuss experiences that have proven effective, and I sincerely hope some resonate with you!

Till next time ... with love, light, and gratitude...
